O Lord, my God, when I, in wonder,

Senhor, meu Deus, quando eu, maravilhado,

Behold Thy vast creation,

Contemplo a tua imensa criação,

The earth and sea and all the starry heavens

A terra e o mar e o céu todo estrelado

Speak to me of Thy perfection.

Me vêm falar da tua perfeição.

When I behold the stars, so far away from me,

Quando as estrelas, tão de mim distantes,

Shining with their vivid splendor,

Vejo a brilhar com vivido esplendor,

I remember, O God, the radiant glories

Relembro, oh! Deus, as glórias cintilantes

That my Jesus left for love of me!

Que meu Jesus deixou, por meu amor!

I see the forests murmuring in the wind,

Olho as florestas murmurando ao vento

And, seeing that Thou planted every tree,

E, ao ver que Tu plantaste cada pé,

I remember the cross, that cruel wood,

Recordo a cruz, o lenho tão cruento,

And in Thy Son I place my faith.

E no teu Filho afirmo a minha fé.

And when I think that Thou didst not spare

E quando penso que Tu não poupaste

Thy beloved Son for love of me,

My heart, which Thou hast won through Him,

Overflows, O Father, with endless love!

Comes from heaven to gather His people,

Vier dos céus o povo seu buscar,

In the eternal home I long, rejoicing,

To behold Thy holy face.
