I give thanks for this life,

Graças dou por esta vida: pelo bem que revelou.

For the good it has revealed.

Graças dou pelo futuro, e por tudo que passou.

I give thanks for the future,

Pelas bênçãos derramadas, pela dor, pela aflição,

And for all that has passed.

Pela graça revelada! – graças dou pelo perdão.

For the blessings poured out,

For the pain and the affliction,

Graças pelo azul celeste e por nuvens que há também,

For the grace revealed,

Pelas rosas do caminho, por espinhos que elas têm,

I give thanks for forgiveness.

Pela escuridão da noite, pela estrela que brilhou,

Pela prece respondida, pelo sonho que falhou.

Thanks for the blue sky above,

And for the clouds as well;

Pela cruz e o sofrimento e por toda provação,

For the roses along the way,

Pelo amor que é sem medida, pela paz no coração,

And for the thorns they bear;

Pela lágrima vertida, pelo alivio que é sem par.

For the darkness of the night,

Pelo dom da eterna vida, sempre graças hei de dar!

For the star that shone;

For the answered prayer,

For the dream that failed.

For the cross and the suffering,

And for every trial;

For love beyond measure,

For the peace within my heart;

For the tears that I have shed,

For the comfort beyond compare;

For the gift of eternal life,

I will always give thanks!
