The Shepherd and the Sheep - 283
The Shepherd loves the sheep
With a father's love;
The Shepherd loves His flock
With a love beyond compare.
The Shepherd also loves others
Who have gone astray,
And with compassion He seeks them
Wherever they may wander.
Wandering through the deserts,
They are seen suffering countless hardships;
When He finds them,
He joyfully carries them
On His shoulders to the fold.
The Shepherd loves His lambs
With indescribable love,
Those who at times are lost,
Groaning in pain.
See the Shepherd,
Moved with compassion,
Wandering over the hills,
Carrying the lambs
Upon His shoulders to the fold.
He loves the ninety-nine
That He sheltered in the fold;
He also loves the one
That wandered away in the field.
“O My lost sheep!”
Cries the sorrowful Shepherd.
Who will go to help Him,
To save it, Lord?
Your pastures are delightful,
Your waters are so peaceful;
Here we are, O good Master,
Give us true direction.
Make us faithful workers,
Fill us with holy love
For the lost sheep
Of Your fold, good Lord.
