On a rugged cross He died,

Rude cruz se erigiu,

And the daylight seemed to hide,

Dela o dia fugiu,

As the emblem of shame and pain;

Como emblema de vergonha e dor;

Yet I look upon that cross,

Mas contemplo esta cruz.

For on it Jesus

Porque nela Jesus

Gave His life for me, a sinner.

Deu a vida por mim, pecador.

Yes, I love the message of the cross;

Sim, eu amo a mensagem da cruz

Until I die I will proclaim it.

Té morrer eu a vou proclamar;

I will also carry my cross

Levarei eu também minha cruz

Until I exchange it for a crown.

Té por uma coroa trocar.

From the glory of heaven,

Desde a glória dos céus,

The Lamb of God

O Cordeiro de Deus,

Came down to humble Calvary;

Ao Calvário humilhante baixou;

That cross has for me

Essa cruz tem pra mim

Endless attraction,

Atrativos sem fim,

Because on it Jesus saved me.

Porque nela Jesus me salvou.

On that cross He suffered,

Nesta cruz padeceu

And there He died for me,

E por mim já morreu,

My Jesus, to give me forgiveness;

Meu Jesus, para dar-me o perdão

And I rejoice in the cross,

E eu me alegro na cruz,

For from it come grace and light

Dela vem graça e luz,

For my sanctification.

The shame of the cross

A vergonha da cruz

I always want to bear and endure;

Quero sempre levar e sofrer;

Christ will come to take me,

Cristo vem me buscar,

And with Him in my home,

E com Ele, no lar,

I shall share in His glory.
