Have you read the story of the cruel cross,

Tens tu lido a história da dura cruz,

On which Jesus died,

Na qual Jesus morreu,

Where, dispelling the darkness, the light shone forth,

Desfazendo as trevas raiou a luz,

As His blood flowed?

Manando o sangue Seu?

Jesus suffered on the cross for you;

Jesus padeceu na cruz por ti;

Oh! Great love of the Savior,

Oh! Grande amor do Salvador

Dying on the cross for me!

Morrendo na cruz por mim!

Have you read that Christ did not complain,

Tens tu lido que Cristo não se queixou,

Upon the tree, in great pain,

No lenho, em grande dor,

But still pleaded with the Father for forgiveness

Mas ao Pai o perdão ‘inda suplicou

For the sinful people?

Pra o povo pecador?

Have you read that Christ finally saved,

Tens tu lido que Cristo salvou, por fim,

On the cross, a criminal?

Na cruz, um malfeitor?

Who, suffering on the cross, pleaded with Him:

Que sofrendo na cruz Lhe rogou:

“Remember me, O Lord”?

“De mim, á lembra-Te, Senhor”?

Have you read that Christ exclaimed on the cross:

Tens tu lido que Cristo exclamou na cruz:

“It is finished.”

“Eis consumado está”.

It was for me, it was for you, that Jesus died,

Foi por mim, foi por ti, que morreu Jesus,

Accept Christ now.
