Happy are those who have heard

São felizes os que têm o alegre som

The joyful sound

Da salvação real do nosso Deus.

Of the true salvation

Pois eles têm ouvido num suave tom,

Of our God.

A multidão que canta lá no céu.

For they have heard,

In a gentle voice,

Já os filhos de Deus bem alegres estão,

The multitude

Porém no céu prazer melhor terão,

Singing there in heaven.

Os gozos do cristão, apenas gotas são

Do mar de bênçãos, em Sião!

The children of God

Already rejoice,

Secam-se do mundo os mananciais por fim,

Yet in heaven

Deixando aqui somente sequidão,

They will have greater joy.

Porém, as fontes divinais não são assim,

The joys of the Christian

Pois sempre águas vivas manarão.

Are only drops

From the sea of blessings

Paulo e Silas, eis que na cadeia estão,

In Zion!

No tronco têm seguros mãos e pés,

Mas sem se importarem, mesmo na prisão,

The springs of this world

Entoam hinos ao Senhor, com fé!

Will finally dry up,

Leaving only dryness behind;

Eis Estêvão numa grande exultação,

But the divine fountains

Embora às pedradas sucumbiu,

Are not like that,

Porque do Espírito cheio teve a visão:

For living waters

O Salvador à dextra de Deus, viu!

Will always flow.

Muitos séculos têm-se passado já,

Paul and Silas

Depois que Estêvão, pela fé morreu,

Were in prison,

Mas salvação igual Jesus ainda dá,

Their hands and feet

A todos crentes e fiéis em Deus.

Fastened in the stocks;

Yet without complaining,

Qual pombinho já em canto divinal,

Even in prison,

Que louva: "Aleluia”, em nosso ser;

They sang hymns

Se perguntares: “Onde apanharei igual?”

To the Lord with faith!

“No Gólgota” nós vamos responder.

Behold Stephen,

Filled with great rejoicing,

Though he fell

Under a shower of stones;

For being full

Of the Holy Spirit,

He saw the Savior

At the right hand of God!

Many centuries

Have already passed

Since Stephen died

By faith;

But Jesus still gives

The same salvation

To all who believe

And remain faithful to God.

Like a little dove

In a heavenly song,

Our hearts praise,

“Hallelujah!”

If you ask,

“Where can I find the same?”

“At Golgotha,”

We will answer.
