Abraão e Seu Sacrifício – 380

Beneath the shade of lovely palm trees,

Debaixo dumas mui formosas tamareiras,

As Beersheba was already wrapped in darkness,

Estando já Berseba na escuridão.

While the birds sang among the rose bushes,

As aves escutando, entre as roseiras,

The patriarch Abraham was seen walking.

Se vê andar o patriarca Abraão.

His heart stood troubled before God,

Seu coração perante Deus está aflito,

For He desires that we serve Him without complaint;

Pois quer que O sirvamos sem murmuração;

And in love he asked the blessed Lord:

E por amor pergunta ao Senhor bendito:

“Do You truly desire my beloved son?”

"O meu amado filho queres Tu, então?"

The mighty voice of Jehovah was heard:

A voz de Jeová potente é ouvida:

“Offer your Isaac to Me,

“O teu Isaque oferece para Mim,

Though your soul be filled with sorrow,

Embora fiques com tu’alma dolorida,

For I will bless you if you do this.”

Pois te abençoo se fizeres tu assim”.

From discouraged, Abraham became strong,

De abatido Abraão se torna forte

And sang hymns as he reflected in faith:

E Canta hinos, pois com fé medita já:

“God is able to deliver my son from death!”

“Deus pode o meu filho libertar da morte!”

Without fear, he continued toward Moriah.

E não temendo, segue para Moriá.

At the foot of the mount of the supreme sacrifice,

Ao pé do monte do supremo sacrifício,

A deep doubt entered Abraham:

Profunda duvida entrou em Abraão:

“Shall I lose the treasure of my life?”

“Irei perder da minha vida o beneficio?”

And sadly he began to climb with slow steps,

E triste começou subir com lentidão,

For he was about to give the hope of his heart,

Pois ia dar, do coração a esperança

In his old age, the sacrifice of a precious flower.

– No seu outono, sacrifício duma flor,&

Thus he led his lamb to the offering,

Assim levou o seu cordeiro à matança,

In obedience to the command of the Lord.

Em obediência ao mandato do Senhor.

Isaac, carrying the wood, walked ahead;

Isaque com a lenha, presto vai na frente,

Oh, how precious he was to Abraham!

Oh! Quanto é formoso para Abraão!

Then he gently turned to his father

Mas eis que volta p’ra seu pai suavemente

And asked him this question:

E lhe dirige esta interrogação:

“I see the fire and the wood we have brought,

“O fogo e a lenha estou vendo que trouxemos,

But where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

Mas o cordeiro d’holocausto onde está?”

And Abraham's answer is recorded in Scripture:

E a resposta de Abraão na Bíblia temos:

“My son, God will provide for Himself the Lamb.”

“Meu filho, Deus pra Si, Cordeiro proverá"

When Abraham arrived at the place God had appointed,

Chegando Abraão aonde Deus mandara,

He built an altar and arranged the wood upon it;

Fez um altar e nele a lenha arrumou:

Then he took his son, whom he had already bound,

E a seu filho, que já dantes amarrara,

And laid him upon the altar.

Tomando nos seus braços sobre o altar deitou,

But when Abraham was about to sacrifice him,

Mas quando Abraão foi para imolá-lo,

The Angel of the Lord cried out from heaven:

O Anjo do Senhor bradou-lhe desde os céus:

“Do not stretch out your hand against the boy,

“A tua mão, ó não estendas p’ra matá-lo;

For now I know that you fear God.”

Porquanto eu agora sei que temes Deus”.

Lifting up his eyes at once,

Erguendo Abraão seus olhos de repente,

Abraham saw a ram caught in the thicket,

Vê um cordeiro, que no mato preso está,

And taking it, he joyfully offered it.

E o tomando, oferece-o alegremente;

Thus, “On the mountain of the Lord it shall be provided.”

Assim “No monte do Senhor se proverá”.

The Angel's voice was heard again:

A voz do Anjo é ouvida novamente;

“Thus says the Lord: Because you have done this,

“Diz o Senhor: Porque fizeste esta ação,

Surely I will bless your descendants,

Deveras, Eu abençoarei a tua semente,

And through them all nations shall be blessed.”

E nela, as nações benditas se farão”.

May we offer our own Isaac with steadfast hearts

O nosso Isaque oferecemos com firmeza

On the Moriah where self-will comes to an end,

No Moriá onde finda o ideal,

For it was there that the victors

Pois foi ali que alcançaram fortaleza,

Received strength amid angelic songs.

Os vencedores, sob canto angelical;

There our God swore His faithfulness,

Ali, o nosso Deus jurou fidelidade,

And there the saints were filled with courage;

Também os santos se encheram de valor,

Only then shall we attain perfect holiness,

E só teremos a perfeita santidade,

When we ascend the mountain of the Lord.

Depois que formos para o monte do Senhor.
