Conta-me a história de Cristo,

Engrave it upon my heart,

The beautiful, unheard-of story

A linda história inaudita,

Of grace, peace, and forgiveness!

De graça, paz e perdão!

Tell how He, becoming incarnate,

Conta como Ele, encarnando,

Came to dwell in the world,

Veio no mundo morar,

And to unworthy sinners

E aos pecadores, indignos,

Reveal the love of God!

De Deus o amor revelar!

Tell how He, in His goodness,

Conta como Ele, bondoso,

Never rejected anyone,

Nunca a ninguém rejeitou,

How, with outstretched hands,

Como, de mãos estendidas,

He invited everyone to Himself!

Todos a si convidou!

How the good Master cannot

Como não pode o bom Mestre,

Refuse anyone at all,

Seja a quem for, recusar,

If, convicted and contrite,

Se, convencido e contrito,

They accept His invitation.

O seu convite aceitar.

Tell me how, upon the mountain,

Conta-me quando no monte

He wept over the city,

For, proud and rebellious,

It rejected His love!

Tell how He still weeps

Over those who follow evil;

And, hardened, resist

His divine love.

Tell also how Christ,

Conta também como Cristo,

Even on the cross, remembered

Mesmo na cruz, se lembrou

His cruel enemies,

Dos seus cruéis inimigos,

And prayed to the Father for them!

E ao Pai por eles rogou!

How the dying thief

Como ao ladrão moribundo

He so promptly heard,

Tão prontamente escutou,

And, that very day, with Him

E, nesse dia, consigo

To rest He took him!

Tell me of the cruel insults

Conta-me as duras afrontas

That He meekly endured;

Que mansamente sofreu:

How, lifted up on the cross,

Como, na cruz levantado,

He died for the ungodly!

Let me live in the certainty

Dá-me o viver na certeza

That it was truly for me!

De que foi mesmo por mim!

That His ineffable love

Que seu amor inefável

Has neither change nor end!
