I see a Man hanging on the cross,

Vejo um homem na cruz pendurado

Shedding His blood for my sin;

A derramar sangue, por meu pecado,

He is the Lamb of God, sacrificed,

É o Cordeiro de Deus imolado,

Who suffers such great pain for me.

Que por mim sofre grandíssima dor;

How greatly He suffers upon the cross, the altar,

Quanto padece na cruz, no altar,

Christ Jesus, my good Savior,

Cristo Jesus, o meu bom Salvador,

That I might inherit a treasure

Para fazer-me um tesouro herdar.

In the holy kingdom of the Lord!

No santo reino do Senhor!

In prayer, when the dawn breaks,

Em oração, quando rompe a alva,

I feel remorse deep within my soul,

Sinto remorsos no fundo da alma,

Because upon the cross Christ calmly endured

Porque na cruz sofreu Cristo com calma,

All the punishment for me, a sinner.

Todo castigo, por mim pecador;

The Supreme Father determined

Quis o supremo Pai determinar

Such a cruel death for my Savior,

Tão cruel morte ao meu Salvador;

That He might grant me a place in heaven

Para no céu conceder-me lugar

Beside Christ, the Redeemer.

Oh, how much pain the Eternal One must have felt

Oh! Quanta dor não sentiu o Eterno,

When He gave us Christ, gentle and tender!

Quando nos deu Cristo meigo e terno!

To save my soul from hell,

Para minh’alma salvar do inferno,

My good Savior died for me.

Por mim morreu o meu bom Salvador,

Upon the cross He atoned for my sins

Os meus pecados na cruz expiou

And suffered a dreadful death with love.

E morte horrenda sofreu com amor.

He took my guilt upon Himself,

Mas sobre Si minha culpa tomou,

My beloved Redeemer.

O meu amado Redentor.

E mais e mais Tua graça proclame;

Deliver me from every strong bond

Livra-me de todos fortes liames,

That the wicked tempter continually weaves.

Que sempre tece o vil tentador;

Upon the altar Christ ascended for me,

Sobre o altar, por mim Cristo subiu,

Offering a sacrifice of love;

Oferecendo holocausto de amor:

Like a lamb, He died upon the cross,

Qual um cordeiro, na cruz sucumbiu

Christ Jesus, my Savior.
